A Little Bit About the Hamptons Vegan

Living a vegan lifestyle

Where we’re from, who we are, and a little bit about The Hamptons Vegan

Julie and Alecia

Where we live affects the choices we have in the local foods we eat. We’d like to tell you a little bit about The Hamptons Vegan.

We lived in the Hamptons for over twenty-eight years. This area’s beauty, quirks, ebb and flow, and of course its restaurants, shops, and locally grown food all contributed to creating The Hamptons Vegan. This is where our vegan journey began.

Who we are

Hi there! I’m Julie.

I was vegetarian for thirty-six years and now vegan for twelve years. It’s easier now than it was back then! I’m the recipe and blog writer for our site.

I was a flight attendant until I married Don, a.k.a. The Big Guy. I then concentrated on raising our four (now adult) children. Our interests include travel, the beach, long walks, new restaurants, our little garden, spoiling our two formally feral cats, Mini and Tigi, and watching the latest movies. After recently welcoming our first grandchild into our lives, we are over the moon and so in love.

From about 2017 to 2019, we ran a vegan cookie and pastry business in the Hamptons of Long Island named Ma’s Cookie Cartel. It was a lot of fun and we met some great people. Donating 10% of our profits to local animal non-profits was the best part.

My Part:

Baking and sampling new recipes! And I’m so excited to then share our recipes and cruelty-free alternatives for transition to a vegan lifestyle right here on the site.

Meet Alecia.

The Hamptons Vegan would not exist without the other half of the team, my oldest daughter, Alecia. And she’s been vegan for twelve years, too! My daughter’s the mover, the shaker/the meeter, and the greeter of our team. She had the insight to dream and then create The Hamptons Vegan name and idea.

Alecia’s lived in many parts of the country. She grew up in the Hamptons, but also has lived in upstate NY,  and the states of Virginia, Washington, and New Jersey as well. You can take the girl out of the Hamptons but you can’t take the Hamptons out of the girl, no matter where she lives though! She loves the ocean and values nature and the beauty it provides around her wherever she lives.

She’s focused on landscape gardening with an emphasis on veganic/organic applications and she continues to stay current, learning and using the best ecological practices.

Additionally, she advocates for animal rights in all forms, loves experiencing vegan restaurants all over the country, and also ran in the Farm Sanctuary 5K in NYC and the Cow Harbor race on Long Island.

She’s a wiz in the kitchen, designing new creations from old recipes on the fly. Or in other words, the jelly to my peanut butter! I always follow recipes and use all the measuring devices known to man. My love of the kitchen scale goes deep! Alecia embraces the terms “a pinch, a spoonful, and a heaping helping” while only glancing at recipes for inspiration. It makes me cringe to think about not following the directions but at the same time, I completely admire that freedom.

I would be remiss if I failed to mention her trusty sidekick, P.D. Caesar Danger, her wonder dog! He was with us since his adoption for nearly twelve years until crossing the rainbow bridge recently. He attended peaceful animal rights protests, traveled the country with Alecia, and loved to sample any vegan goodies he was offered. A mighty little warrior for change!

And then a new Hamptons Vegan was born in September 2019!

Azalea joined the family!

And now Alecia’s primary focus is her (vegan) daughter!

Alecia’s Part:

So, Alecia will run the Facebook, and Instagram connections on our blog. Additionally, her invaluable advice, anecdotes, discoveries, and vegan undertakings of all kinds will further enrich our progress.

Altogether now

Recipes, vegan activities, fund-raisers, and events all played a part in the creation of The Hamptons Vegan. And reporting on all things that promote a vegan lifestyle is now our mission. As we work at becoming the best vegans we can, we hope The Hamptons Vegan community will grow and evolve with us. We’re embracing compassionate, cruelty-free choices for everyone, everywhere.

So come join us on our journey! We’d love for you to come along and we welcome you to The Hamptons Vegan!

xoxo
